Here is information pertaining to my nZEDb setup.

This implementation is on Centos 7.  Centos 7 was installed from a USB stick on an Intel NUC (no cd/dvd drive and I've yet to get the Centos 7 installer to work over PXE).

Additional steps for Centos 7

Install the EPEL repository:  yum install epel-release

Timezone for PHP is: America/Los_Angeles

The version of nZEDb at the time of this install required PHP7 but Centos 7 has Centos 5.6.  Here is how to Install PHP 7 on Centos 7.

Here is how to turn the firewall off on Centos 7

After installing the DB (I used MariaDB), I needed to populate the database timezone tables:  'mysql_tzinfo_to_sql /usr/share/zoneinfo | mysql -u root -p mysql'
