iPhone Firmware Update

March 10th, 2010

Here are the steps that I'm taking to upgrade the firmware on my iPhone.  In this case, I'm going from 3.0.1 jailbroken to 3.1.2 jailbroken.  I'm hoping I can do a backup/restore of the settings but I'll need to reinstall apps and cydia applications.  From the cydia perspective, it's not always a good idea to use apt-backup to backup/restore your apps depending on the version but I'm going to try it in this case since it is not a major firmware version update.

- Update iTunes to most current version
- Run apt-backup and back up existing app list
- Screenshot (home-sleep) anything desired and upload pictures to PC
- Perform a sync (backup) to iTunes
- Upload files from 'download' directory on iPhone (music, videos, etc.)
- Check Cydia for manually added repos
- Perform a restore of the non-jailbroken current version of the firmware (3.0.1 -> 3.0.1)
- ** Note: it may be a good idea to take a breather here - there have been some suggestions that the firmware updates can overheat the wifi chip.  It may be that performing back to back updates can make that worse.
- Perform the upgrade to the new firmware (3.1.2)
- Restore the settings
- Jailbreak the new firmware and install Cydia
- Install apt-backup from Cydia and restore apps

Installed the following in order.
Chipset software - (SP36881)
MAtrix Storage - (SP38088)
Audio - (SP40438)
TV TUNER - (SP38987)
Fingerprint reader - (SP37920)
Digital persona - (SP40216) (if the correct driver above is used should ask to run setup for enrollment)
Bluetooth - (SP38167) (if you dont you dont get BT Stereo support)
IR control - (SP37925)
Graphics (Nvidia) - (SP38393) (note nvidia has updated drivers on their site)
Ricoh Card reader (windows update ones work as well) SP36423
Synaptics Touch pad (windows update ones work as well) SP37065
HP Quickplay (SP38361) (after you connect to the internet launch QP and download latest update from there)
Quick Launch update (SP38171)
Quick Touch SP37799 (installed but is quirky but works)
Cyberlink quick cam software (SP37849)

After all the reboots etc from the above I turned on the wifi (or connect via lan) to the internet
and ran windows update, make sure to manually sellect the updates and do not take the
Fingerprint drivers. I did not see any quick touch update so.

Only thing not working like I said is the tv button above the keyboard, but all the other
stuff including fingerprint reader, and enrollments are working. The tv tuner does however
launch via the remote which is funny, but I think there is a quick launch app that allows
you to map the buttons so it may be easy to fix.

Thank you!!!! I can confirm if you will make clean install win 7 like this then all will work iven treble/Bass. Only things not work for me is also TV button. And I cant play Bluray, I can play DVD-s but if I but in bluray Quick Play crashes.
Thanks again and Eclypse3D do you have Bluray rom, is the playback ok vith Quick Play ?

Thanks

IS2010 Virus Issues

January 22nd, 2010
In helping a friend with a system that had been infected with the IS2010 virus, I removed the underlying virus files, but there was still issues - particularly that ctrl-alt-del did not work as well as task manager did not work.  I removed user prohibitions for running this which resulted in the option becoming available again on the right click/taskbar however task manager still would not run.  After quite a bit of research I found this page which pointed out that there were entries under this reg key
hklm/software/microsoft/windows NT/current version/Image File Execution Options
with taskmgr.exe and value labled "debugger". When removed, task manager would open again from everywhere, without having to rename it. There was also a bunch of anti virus applications listed under this key which would presumable prevent them from running.
